There is a few products that I am always looking for the next best or the newest formula to try, always searching for the right product for me. Fake tan is quite tricky because what works on someone else’s skin tone won’t necessarily work on me. James Read was a brand that kept popping up on my radar and more often than not the overall opinion was good, so I bought a few of his products to see what I thought. I will talk about the body products from his range that I love but this post is dedicated to the face products. James Read is one of the UK’s leading experts on self-tanning, with over a decade of experience behind him and A-list clients that include Ellie Goulding, Jessie J, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Lady Gaga to name a few. So you can trust in his knowledge of all things tanning that he knew what he wanted and that his product’s are the best they can be for getting a beautiful natural looking tan.
His BB Gradual Tan, Sleep Mask Tan and the Express Mask are the only facial tanners that I use and the only ones I have used for a few months now.
BB Gradual Tan – This product is quite fabulous, much like his entire range it is a mix between skincare and tan, it contains hyaluronic acid for hydration, co-enzyme Q10 to provide anti-ageing benefits and red algae that is cell renewing. It comes out like it’s name suggests as a BB cream / tinted moisturiser, it feels moisturising and light on the skin but definitely brightens and evens out my skin instantly. The application is easy thanks to the built in brush (that is really soft) and a couple of clicks, with a few strokes later it’s done. It really is easy to blend and I haven’t found any issues with application, think of it like your foundation brush. It develop’s into a soft tan, nothing obvious when it has developed.
The Express Mask Facial Tan is another hit from James Read. There are those times when you don’t have time to sit around waiting for the tan to dry or to develop, you want a quick tan that looks natural and that’s what this delivers. Packed again with skin loving ingredients, hyaluronic acid, jojoba seed oil, aloe vera and vitamin E all there to leave your skin smooth, plumped and firm. One pump is more than enough for my face and neck, it comes out sort of milky but applies clear to the skin once you blend it out. The choice of how long you leave it on will determine how dark your tan will be, 30 minutes for a light glow or you can leave it on for the full hour for a deeper tan. Though you can leave it on for longer, it will continue to darken until you wash it off. For me if I’m going out I apply the tan then go off do my hair and then wash it off once it’s styled, then I just apply some makeup and off I go. Looking nicely bronzed.
This is one of my favourite products simply due to the speed at which this gives you a tan, there is a matching body product that works just as well. Together they offer a speedy tan that not only feels lovely but looks great too.
Lastly is the Sleep Tan Mask, something I would never have done before trying this product was leave a self tan on my skin overnight for fear that I would wake up with breakouts in the morning or my skin would feel dry. I have mentioned it with each product but I will say this again because it’s one of the key features that made me want to try the range. The skin treatment aspect is yet again present in this formula, an overnight mask that has aloe vera, cucumber, hyaluronic acid and red algae to soothe, hydrate and calm your skin, all treating your skin like a skincare product would. With the bonus of a beautiful golden tan when you wake up too. Like the Express Tan it is a milky clear gel that feels light weight once applied, sinks in quickly and again neither have that horrible biscuit scent. One pump is more than generous to cover the entire face and neck.
This is fast becoming a cult product, with the light golden glow and skin loving ingredients, it isn’t a surprise that everyone loves this and the rest of the James Read range.
I cannot recommend these products enough, the entire James Read range is certainly worth a try. Are you a fan of his products? Let me know your favourite in the comment!
